GeForce NOW connects to your Steam, Epic and GOG accounts and streams the supported games you already own — our catalog currently tracks 1,251 of them. Xbox Cloud Gaming streams the Game Pass catalog instead: hundreds of titles for one fee, but they rotate, and when a game leaves Game Pass it leaves your cloud library with it.
If your games live on Steam, GeForce NOW is the only one of the two that will stream them.
Image quality and latency
This one is not close. GeForce NOW Ultimate streams up to 4K 120 fps with ray tracing and DLSS; Xbox Cloud caps at 1080p 60 fps and compression artifacts show on a monitor or TV. On a phone screen the gap narrows a lot, and xCloud's touch-control overlays for many Game Pass titles are genuinely useful there.
Price
GeForce NOW runs from a free queue-limited tier to $19.99/month for Ultimate, plus the cost of the games you buy. Game Pass Ultimate bundles the streaming with the catalog. If you were paying for Game Pass anyway, xCloud is effectively free; if you were not, a year of it costs more than most players spend on Steam sales.

Which one works better on phones?
Xbox Cloud Gaming. Many Game Pass titles ship touch-control layouts, and the Xbox app is built for mobile play. GeForce NOW works on phones too but assumes a controller.
Do I keep my saves if I switch?
Games with cross-platform cloud saves (most big multi-platform titles) carry over. Single-platform saves stay with the store account they were made on.
