In short
Two cloud gaming services cost nothing to use. GeForce NOW has a free membership: 1080p at 60 fps, a queue before each session, and sessions of one hour. It streams the PC games you own and free-to-play games such as Fortnite, so a free game on the free plan costs nothing at all. Amazon Luna is included with Prime, with more than 50 games, Fortnite among them. Xbox Cloud Gaming streams Fortnite free and needs Game Pass for everything else. Boosteroid, PlayStation Plus and Shadow have no free plan.
Free means two different things in cloud gaming, and the two get mixed up. The service can be free: nobody charges you for the machine that runs the game. The game can be free: nobody charges you for a copy. One service gives you both at once, and this guide starts there.
GeForce NOW: the free membership
- Create an NVIDIA account at play.geforcenow.com, or install the GeForce NOW app on Windows, Mac, Android, a Steam Deck or a TV. On an iPhone or iPad it runs in Safari.
- Pick the Free membership. No card is asked for.
- Open a game. For a game you own, sign in to Steam, Epic or the store it is sold on inside the session. For a free-to-play game, press Mark as owned on its page in GeForce NOW and it goes to your library.
- Wait for a machine. At busy hours the queue is long, and an ad plays before the game. The session stops after one hour. Start another one.

The picture is 1080p at 60 frames per second. Of the 5,886 games we list on GeForce NOW, the free plan can start 2,032. The rest need a paid plan, most of them because NVIDIA does not keep them installed and the paid plans include the storage. Performance is $9.99 a month and Ultimate $19.99. They change the machine, the wait and the length of a session, not the price of the games.
148 of the games the free plan starts are free to play as well. Those are the ones where you pay nobody: not NVIDIA, not the publisher. You sign in to the game’s own account, Epic or Steam or the publisher’s, as on a PC, and the game keeps your progress on its own servers. Our free plan list puts them first, and Free games you can play in the cloud lists every free game on every service.

THE FINALSdestruction chaos, made for gamepadsNothing, for as many one-hour sessions as you want. The price is your time in the queue.
Amazon Luna: included with Prime
If you pay for Amazon Prime, Luna is already yours. Open luna.amazon.com, sign in with the Amazon account and play in the browser, or in the Luna app on a Fire TV, an Android phone, a Samsung or LG TV or Windows. A Bluetooth controller, a keyboard and mouse or touch controls all work. On a Mac, an iPhone or an iPad, Luna runs in the browser.
Prime includes more than 50 streamed games, the GameNight party games, and a set of PC games to keep each month. Fortnite is in it, and EA Sports FC 26 was added to the Prime set in April 2026. The set changes each month. Luna Premium, at $9.99 a month, adds a larger catalogue on top. Since June 2026 you cannot bring or buy your own games on Luna, so what Prime includes is what you get. Our Luna list shows every game on the service today.
Prime is $14.99 a month in the US, and Luna is one of the things it includes. If you have Prime for the deliveries, the games cost you nothing more.
Xbox Cloud Gaming: one free game
Fortnite streams at xbox.com/play with a free Microsoft account and no Game Pass, on a phone with touch controls, or on a PC, a browser or a TV with a controller. Everything else needs a Game Pass plan, from $9.99 a month. There is no free trial of the cloud on its own. Our Xbox Cloud Gaming list shows what the subscription opens.
Boosteroid, PlayStation Plus and Shadow: no free plan
Boosteroid has no free plan and no trial. A subscription has to be bought before anything starts, free-to-play games included. Without paying you can create an account, browse the catalogue and run the network test. The monthly plan is €12.89, or €7.49 a month paid by the year, with no commitment on the monthly one.
PlayStation Plus streams games on the Premium plan only, $19.99 a month. The Essential and Extra plans have no cloud streaming. Shadow rents a whole Windows PC in the cloud, from $29.99 a month, and has no free plan either.

What free cloud gaming does not include
- No paid plan has a free trial: not GeForce NOW, not Boosteroid, not Game Pass. NVIDIA’s free membership is the trial.
- The free plan does not include the games. A game you own on Steam streams free. A game you do not own has to be bought first, from the store, not from NVIDIA.
- Free-to-play games keep their in-game shops. The stream is free, the skins are not.
- Prime’s games rotate. A game in the Prime set this month can leave it next month, and the games bought through Luna before June 2026 are gone.
